Mayor Honors Trish Ott With Teacher Award The Mayor and City of Manhattan are pleased to announce Trish Ott, First Grade teacher at the Manhattan Catholic Schools, as the most recent Mayor’s Teacher Award recipient. Mrs. Ott was
nominated for the award by the Terry and Ann Harts family who nominated Mrs. Ott because she truly leaves an imprint on children as they are swept away in a world of compassion, curiosity, self-esteem and exploration.
I’m overwhelmed. I’ve never in my life, wanted to do anything but teach, Mrs. Ott said upon receiving the Mayor’s Teacher Award. First and second graders are some of the most fascinating
people. I am very lucky to live in a City like Manhattan. What a great place to live; what a wonderful town!
Manhattan Catholic Schools principal, Tom Schmitz, lauded Mrs. Ott as one of the
special ones that don’t just teach, but touches lives and as a teacher who reaches children by partnering up with parents.
The Mayor’s Teacher Award is an exciting opportunity for students, families and
colleagues to recognize outstanding Manhattan teachers who inspire students, invite families involvement in the schools and support their community. Mayor’s Teacher
Award recipients will be recognized twice more during the school year. The next recipient will be recognized during the February 4, 2003, Manhattan City
Commission meeting. Award honorees will be presented with a commemorative plaque and share the recipient’s story of excellence in teaching in Manhattan.
